Chinese new yr bedtime story sio

Chinese New Year began when the Nian (a creature of Chinese stories) came into the villages on the first day of every year and stole food and ate children. Because of this, the villagers used to put food outside for him and then lock their doors, hoping this would protect them and their children. Then, one day, Nian came into the town and saw some children wearing in RED clothings and he ran away without taking the food or the children. The villagers decided he must be frightened of the color red so, from then on, over Chinese New Year everybody in the villages wore red and the Nian never came back. To this day, Chinese all over the world cook lots of food and offer to friends and family. They also wear red, both of these acts helping to make sure the Nian stays away.
